Renew Vehicle Registration

  1. DMV eNotification account with Department of Transportation
    • The Driver and Motor Vehicle eNotification account registration indicates you have consented to be part of the DOT on-line services.
  2. Your licence plate number
    • Your licence plate number is required to identify the vehicle being registered.
  3. Valid credit card
    • Your valid credit card number information is used to pay the required fees relating to registration renewals.
  4. Your insurance company name, policy number and expiry date of the policy
    • Your insurance information is required in order to proceed with the renewal.  By law, your vehicle must be insured to renew your licence plate. 
  5. Your odometer reading
    • The collection of the odometer reading is used for fraud prevention purposes.  Disclosure of this information is optional.
  6. PDF reader software such as Adobe Reader on your computer to view documents
  7. A printer to print the Registration Certificate(s) and payment receipt.
  1. Renewal Period: Up to 90 days in advance of your current expiration date.
    Address: your address must be current.
    Unpaid Fines: you may not renew if you have any outstanding fines.

  1. The Department of Transportation on-line Cancel Vehicle Registration is designed to provide NWT residents with the ability to cancel their registrations directly on-line. By filling out the Cancel Registration on-line you consent to allow the Department of Transportation to cancel your vehicle registration. 

Has your address changed?

All vehicle owners in the Northwest Territories are required by law, under the Motor Vehicles Act, to notify the GNWT within days of any change of address.

If you have recently moved, you will need to change your address using approved documents at an issuing site before you renew your registration.
