Order a veteran licence plate

Available in-person only

  1. Fill out this form (also available at any Royal Canadian Legion Branch in the Northwest Territories).

  2. Send the completed form and supporting documentation to your local branch of the Royal Canadian Legion along with proof of eligibility (as described below). The application will be forwarded by the Royal Canadian Legion to the Northwest Territories/Alberta Command for certification, then to the GNWT's Compliance and Licensing Division.

  3. Once approved, the applicant will be notified to go a driver and vehicle office to register a new veteran licence plate.
    NOTE: Veteran plates are non-transferable. 

Veteran licence plates are available to any person who has honourably:

  • Served in the Armed Forces of Canada, the Commonwealth, or its wartime allies for a minimum of three years.
  • Served in the Merchant Navy, or Ferry Command during wartime.
  • Performed NATO service of Peacekeeping mission(s) with the Armed Forces of Canada. 

    Fees

    • Veteran licence plate: $36.00 plus cost of the registration.
