Annual extended length permit
Permits for the movement of extended length vehicles must be purchased prior to entering the Northwest Territories.

Permit rules
- The load-carrying surface on the lead trailer must be greater than the load-carrying surface on the rear trailer.
- The overall length of the extended train must not exceed 31 metres.
- Extended trains must not have more than three articulation points.
- The weight of the second trailer must not exceed the weight of the tractor drive axle(s) plus the weight of the axle(s) on the first semitrailer.
- Any breakup or make up of over length combination units must be done off public roadways or on private property.
- Operation of these vehicles will be permitted under the following conditions:
a. Highway 1 (kilometre 0 to 187)
b. Highway 2 (kilometre 0 to 40)
c. Highway 3 (kilometre 0 to Bristol Pit or terminals located on Old Airport Road between Highway 3 and Borden Drive by Westown Tire) - The carrier shall use only drivers with extended length endorsements on or with their driver’s licence (NT only) or carry their extended length training card endorsed by company.
- The permit holder shall not operate over length combination vehicles during adverse weather conditions or when the roadway is icy or heavily snow covered.
- No driver shall operate a “A Train" configuration vehicle having a gross weight exceeding 53,500kgs.
- No driver shall operate a "C Train" configuration vehicle having a gross vehicle weight exceeding 58,500kgs.
- No driver shall operate a "B Train" configuration vehicle having a gross weight exceeding 56,500kgs.
- No driver shall operate a "super b train" configuration vehicle having a gross weight exceeding 63,500kgs.
