Fuel and carbon tax rates
As of April 2, 2024, the Northwest Territories (NWT) fuel tax rate is $0.040 per kilometre.
The NWT carbon tax rate is $0.077 per kilometre.
The total cost of these taxes on single trip permits is $0.117 per kilometre.
If you originate in the NWT, then leave the territory, and come back into the territory, you will only need to purchase a one-way fuel tax from the border to home.
Permits can also be purchased through an approved third-party.
